  • Tran Sport boats question....

So me and the ol' man are thinking about getting rid of the Haynie and Kenner and getting a Tran Sport XLR8. Has anyone heard any bad about them or pro's and cons?

The rig were thinking about is the XLR8' 20', 6' power pole, 8 inch bobs jack plate, 250 Optimax pro SX, 82lb MinnKota.

I just dont wanna see the Haynie go, its a good boat and not many around in the H20 model. Just need something new.

LOL Sounds like you already have one picked out. Tran makes good boats and seems to have excellent customer service. The Tran XLR8 is pretty much the same style hull as your Haynie.

There's a difference between wanting something and needing something.

The dude at CBM in santa fe said the decks arent great, like the boats are weak, so it kinda scared me.

im considering tran. i have a kenner 21 that im
happy with. looking for something 24 ft+ thatll handle rougher water substantially better. not sure if that performance difference will come to fruition out of a bayboat. considering a deep v. im pretty happy with my boat. not really sure if the "upgrade" is worth the price.

If it's that rough don't go, or trailer closer to where you're fishing.

Some of the larger 24' boats had a few weak spots on the deck a while back, but they have addressed the issue as far as I know. I have a customer with a xlr8 24' and had the weak deck issue, Tran ripped the entire deck out and replaced it no cost. They are a stand behind there boats and warranty company.

I own a XLR8 21 LS and it’s definitely the best boat I have been on. I have owned several Tran Sport boats before this and will tell you that customer service with the Tran family is second to none. The XLR8 is a unique boat that can do it all….go skinny and real fast. The selling factor for me is the hull design and construction. They use some of the heaviest core density contruction on their transoms. Most importantly is the strake and chin design that gives the XLR8 its true merit. When you go fast, you have to incorporate many factors to insure safety and stability. Strakes and panel stiffness is an important role for fiberglass boats that go fast. Those strakes are first and above all longitudinal stiffeners. Crawl under an XLR8 and check out the design. My old Pathfinder would flex and bounce in chop going at high rates of speed. Not the Tran. They also incorporate a slight reverse chine on the rail, which deflects spray and gives an increase in lift. The boat has minimal bow lift at take off and tracks well with little chine walking. The middle, aft re-circulating livewell is great for release tournaments or live bait. They are just tough boats that perform. That’s my 2 cents worth. Good luck!
