  • '95 yamaha 40 hp redline?

Any one know what the rpm redline might be for a '95 yamaha 40hp? I took it up to 5k for only about 30 sec this last weekend, everything seemed fine, but I don't want to cause any damage. I've done multiple searches on google and not really found anything. Any help would be appreciated.

I am no expert but if it will do it, it should be Ok. I wouldn't do it all day. 4 or 2 stroke? My 115 four stroke does 5500, Maybe
Evan's Marine will post up about it soon. I think they are close to being governed from the factory.

6,100 RPM hit's the rev limiter, 5K is no problem for that motor. you can set it on 5K all day long with no worries. The Yamaha 40, 50 ,60 ,70 and 90's form 90-06 are pretty much bulletproof motors. They never changed design much over the years because they were done right from the get go. Run it and love it!!!!!

thanks, so theoretically I could safely take it up to 5800? or should I keep it under 5500?

Use all you got to get on plane then cut it back.

That's darn good to hear when you own a '97 sixty horse.

Fuzzy's absolutely correct. You can run full RPM just want to do it in burst no longer than 3 minutes at a time. Coachlaw they are the best motors Yamaha ever produced as far as reliability and horsepower ratings. They also did the same with all the 150-250 Saltwater 2 OX66 Motors and VMAX (NON-HPDI) Motors from 97-2006. I have a customer with a 2002 90 2 stroke with 2,100 + hours on the motor and his compressions are still around 105-101PSI. This shows how well the internals are built.
