  • Trouble with 2009 Yamaha 200hp 4-stroke

My buddy has a 2009 yammie 4-stroke 200 that he is having some trouble with. It runs just fine at lower RPMs but won't go over 2500 or so. It almost seems like a computer issue to me, as it runs just fine at lower RPMs (no sputtering or stalling), but seems to be limited to that only. We pulled off the vapor separator and emptied it out but that didn't do it. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thanks.

I think that is a safety thing for the Yamaha so that they won't overheat. I had the same thing in that mine wouldn't run over a certain RPM because of an engine problem I was having.

Bryan at Evans Marine(sponsor here) fixed the problem that I was having. He knows just about everything you'd want to know about Yamaha engines and has gotten me out of several fixes.

Yeah, I hear good things about him on here quite a bit. Just checking to see if it was an easy fix without too much trouble.

On the 4 stroke models it is imperative to plug it in to the computer. Even if you fix the issue you won't be able to get it out of limp mode with out re-setting the computer. Sounds to me like it is a sensor.
