There are many variables that constitue a good gigging area but only 3 things that are very important.
1) stay away from soft mud bottoms-you can't walk in gook.
2) the winds need to be less than 12mph
3) clarity. You need clear water as you can't stab what you can't see
and finally. The best time to go is anytime you can when these three basic conditions are meet.
