  • SLP Slaughter! -06/01/14 Report

Got to SLP at sunrise and met up with Kyle from Austin. He was relatively new to saltwater fishing and I offered to show him around. It was very slow at first. Bait was present on the flats, but fish were scattered. We ended up doing long drift and I picked up a few trout off topwaters and corkies. Eventually though, we found the trout on a color change and weed line. I had trout coming out of the weeds and busting the topwater with reckless abandon. Eventually the weeds got really bad so I switched to a plumtruese assassin in a 3/8th oz jighead. I would pitch to open portions of the weed and give it a couple of twitches. Ended catching a lot of fish that way. A lot of fish even followed the bait to the kayak and hit just feet from the boat. I had one even hit the bait, inhale it, jump into the kayak, throw the hook and then flop out of the kayak. It all happened so fast, I was speechless. As the day wore on, the strikes got softer and we ended up missing a lot of fish. All in all though, a good day..Click image for larger version
