I found myself with a few topwaters that I never used anymore. Some were beat up and some were the 99 cent specials from walmart. I bought a few cans of spray paint and some epoxy and got to work. Lemme know what Yall think! And if anyone has a better way to do it feel free to chime in!
Here are the steps incase anyone wants to give it a go.
1) take off old hooks and split rings
2) tape off the eyes with blue painters tape
3) sand off most of the paint and level out any inconsistentcies with a piece of sand paper
4) clean with alcohol on a rag and let dry
5) paint with light coats of spray paint and use wire mesh to imitate scales or patterns (I used a piece of an old bug screen from a window)
6) remove tape / let paint dry and apply a light even coat of epoxy
7) let epoxy cure and add new split rings and hooks
8) catch a 30" trout or two 30" trout , either will work fine
and the other soft plastics were the knotty hooker baits I cut and shoved a satwater hook with lead wrapped around it ,then filled the hole back up with silicone. It's like a corky but costs about 1$ Or less each
