  • Planning wading trip for all day tomorrow. Need some tips

Planning on taking my dad out for a fathers day fishing trip. Gonna do some wading which will be my first time in saltwater. Can anybody give me some good tips on what to do and not do. I don't have waders I was thinking windbreaker pants and long sleeve pfg and old shoes.

#1 shuffle your feet. You don't need waders.

ding ding ding! Seriously, 2 things you have to do before you even think about that big red you want. Shuffle feet and keep some isopropyl alcohol in your bag.

Plan your fishing area first, thorw plastics, and spoons, waders not necessary, im always in shorts.
First Time ...... Be careful and stay away from SanLuPass! Work the bay shorelines where ever you want. keep the wind at your back ! work angles perpendicular to the coast. Keep your eye on your fishn buddy ! Good luck !

Funny you say that. We went out before I saw your post, went to sanlu pass and had great difficulty trying to wade out to areas. My dads a big guy, kinda clumsy and we barely got out there until we had to turn back and head in. The bottom was just too soft. I'm looking for places with a harder bottom to walk in at. We tried como lake and Dana cove but the bottom was really soft!

So if you were to wade in west bay by walking in not by boat, where would you suggest?

Try 8 mile RD. park by the sign on the right. Walk in about 50yds, and go about waist deep. Start fishing. If u go on low tide, u can walk in further. Follow the shore line till you hit the entrance to the cove on your right. Just before u go to the right, you'll hit shell. Good fishing there. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.

PS: use the parachute material pants without the liner. The liner inside the pants will weigh u down. Get the Ray Guard reef boots. U can buy the leggings also. I have those and the stingray boots. The stingray boots are $125 and the reef boots are about $45. The leggings, can't remember the price. Easier to replace the reef boots than the stingray boots. Use them with the neoprene socks.
