Walked in at our spot at around 610. I knew immediately that it was going to be tough with not much bait present. Started with the topwater with no takers. My dad was using a hackberry in morning glory. We reached the gut and plugged away for a few hours, going up and down the gut hoping the outgoing tide would get some fish to eat. I caught a nice 23-24 inch fat red at 8. Figured that would be the highlight of the day. At 10 I moved to where the gut met the grassline to look for reds. All this time my dad was patiently plugging away. He made a cast towards a clump of shell...I saw a swirl...and ZZZZZZZZ...with an explosion of water. I got out of the way as the fish darted towards the flat. My dad pulled the fish in like he had done it before. I saw the fish come up for a bit and told my dad it was a red...while full well knowing he had a big trout on. He brought it in and I netted it , still thinking it was a red. I grabbed the trout out of the net and showed him his new personal best...a 27 inch 7lb trout. It is definitely a good day! Pics to come!
