  • Topwater Redfish

The water was 60-65 degrees today. When I hopped out to wade I had on a Spook trout pattern/ About the third or forth long cast I had a big blow-up right at the end of the cast. First one this early spring. I was bowed up and thinking really big trout (of course). That quickly changed as the fish made a couple of long, low runs and I knew it was a big redfish. C&R 8.5# only bite I had!

Glad to hear that. I have not had a top water bite in a month. I am retired and fish. 4 to 5 days a week when the weather is good or the bite is good.

That's right buddies.. Spring is coming quick and so is the topwater bite. I haven't had one blow up a topwater since the beginning of winter and one small trout mid winter so I cant wait.

Catching bull reds on a topwater is fun too, although on a trout rod it can put a lot of stress on a big fish, and they occasionally don't survive. Catchin 20# rRedfish in five feet of clear water is fun to watch.
