  • Goose Hunt

A buddy invited me to hunt some geese on his lease N. of Matagorda on Monday.

Had a good time and got 3 new species to me, white-fronted, lesser snow, and lesser canada. Quite a blast waiting for them to come in. Ducks come in so quick compared to the anticipation of those high birds dropping in.

Pintails knew it was the first day of the split, and bombed our dekes in big groups all morning. Also had greenheads land in and spoonies work. Many silo socks had poop on them when we were picking them up.

We got our limit of specks, a pair of lesser canadas, and a half-dozen or so snows/ross

            Goose Gumbo ?
The legs/thighs at least, the snow breast fillets are destined for the tamale pot. Heard specs are good so I'm gonna bbq up some too

Did they decoy all the way in?
No, many would circle a few times way up, then leave. We were taking them when they came ~30 yards or so. The vast majority never even came down.

What kind of strange beast is that standing behind the birds?

Looks like it comes with its own ghillie suit.

LOL, I forget the breed. It pointed on a meadowlark in the field while we were setting up

It brought back birds, and you are right, it blends in well!
