  • First Deer

I shot my first deer this weekend on a TYHP hunt in Blanco county. Was on a beautiful ranch and it was a first class hunt! Saw some monster 10pts but since it was a management hunt i shot this 5point cull. Couldn't be happier, perfect shot, ran 5 yards, and dropped. This is something I'll never forget. If you don't already know about it look up the Texas Youth Hunting Program, it was a first class operation.

Thanks guys and yes i have the casing and the antlers in an ant pile! It was an awesome experience! Im going again in Bandera county on a family friend's lease. Any tips for that hunt are appreciated, there are no blinds or feeders on the property but it is 400 acres on the Sabinal River.

Find a good game trail near the water. Climb a tree and hang tight.

Use natural cover. Pop up blinds and new stands are like putting up a sign that says "deer go away". If you had a new chair in your living room when you walked in you'd notice it right? The deer notice new stuff too. Takes 4 weeks or so for them to get comfortable around something new. Get in a tree or behind brush or rocks and bust another one!
