Went duck hunting in the coves on the south side Sun, Mon, and Tues morning. Have not shot ducks on West Bay since the 80's. Sunday morning I had ducks decoy early before shooting time so I waited. Someone got off to an early start and off they went. When shooting time came I had several pass shots that I passed on as long ago we used to let ducks heading to others spreads pass…thought that was what we all did…that's no longer the case I guess. I should have shot as that wound up being my only shots. Every time I had ducks coming over someone took a LONG shot and they would boogie. Wound up not pulling the trigger that morning. Next day, I went further in the marsh area away from other blinds. Had four groups decoy and shot two redheads. Missed two redheads as well. Last morning I had nothing decoy all morning and no passing shots either as there was the only one hunter other than myself in all west bay it felt like. Ducks never really got going. Finally towards the end three came in and I dropped one. Stupid scaup. Oh well. I enjoyed myself immensely and look forward to getting back out there. The redheads wound up in my new smoker I got for Christmas wrapped in bacon with onion and jalipeno peppers. Excellent.
