  • 2 First and 1 Last Turkey Hunt

Last 5 days during Texas 2015 Spring Turkey Hunt I bagged my 1st Long Beard finally after years of trying using a Cross Bow. Been trying a long time and finally connected with an 8" Beard Tom. Will be my last with a weapon and now only pictures and video. No more running and gunning as my knee just wont take it anymore.
I sure will miss the hunt but its time to just enjoy and listen to the stories.
My Grandson finally connected with a huge Tom with 10.5" beard. He was with my son who was calling and on last morning hunt that huge beast came in and my grandson brought him down after 4 shots and a skirmish.
    He was so so excited!!
The spring flower/cactus bloom is in full and the Bluebonnets were gorgeous!!
Caught a nice sunset after a severe west Texas storm.

Were you parked in a popup or deep cover ? Best thing is to call, zig zag about 50 yards at a 45deg angle and keep calling.
Gotta confuse the older ones and if they sound closer move only 10yards at a time still zig zagging.
Then just putt when they are close and be ready!!
I love to go after them that way and not just sit and call. But my stalking days are in the sunset.
Lots of jakes this year so the next two years should be great also for a good one.
Saw 1 bull snake with a shaking tail and 1 small rattlesnake. I left both alone but they did get my attention.
No chiggars and no ticks this year so that was another victory!!
Are there Rios in Arkansas or just the big easterns? I believe from what I see on the hunting channels that the Easterns are more vocal.

All easterns. We were set up stationary. Honestly, we didn't try too hard.
