Hello,
My 2007 Ford F-150 5.4L Lariat 2WD w/140K miles on it is having some major trouble. My family and I had just left our house in Houston when just a block down the road, I get a message saying: "Transmission Malfunction, Engine Failsafe Mode". I immediately pull over, shut it off then turn it back on and everything goes away. I then proceed back to the house to take my wife's car, but on the way back to the house, I get it again, but this time I keep driving. At this point, I'm just trying to get to my family's house because we were already 30 minutes late. A few hours later, we get home and I decide to take the truck for a test drive and not even a 1/4 the way down my street it happens again, but this time I take the time to feel how it drives. It was horrible. It was very rough, it felt like it was partially stuck in first gear, but if it did shift it was very rough and it was like a teen driving a stick shift for the first time. My main concern is that: Can I drive it to a shop without further damaging my transmission?. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or what may be the problem? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated.
