  • Newbie to the site, saltwater fishing, and kayaking

I moved to Houston from Midland, Tx late last summer and have been dying to start fishing! Coming from West Texas where there is not a lot of water I'm super excited to get started. I've never saltwater fished and will be asking lots of questions! I don't even really know where to begin.

Welcome! I picked saltwater fishing back up about a year ago after buying a place in Galveston. This site has helped me get back in "saltwater" shape and shorted the learning cove. Enjoy!

Welcome. I only have one recommendation.
Always wear a life jacket. Too many heartbreaking stories due to not wearing one.

Bought this bad boy this morning and went a paddled around chocolate bay for a few hours. Saw tons of fish and was kicking myself for not bringing my rod. I don't have a life jacket yet but will get one soon.

Life jacket should be at the top of the list . An inflatable PFD is lighter and cooler than a regular life jacket , but , your choice . Even if one is a good swimmer , being in the bay or surf water with its current and shell is more dangerous than a fresh water lake .
