  • Slick

to my knowledge, I have never seen a slick. I know what they are and how they are formed, but I find it hard to believe I haven't seen one. Or maybe I have.

I grew up sailing and see what I would call "Lulls", or patches of water that are not wind-blown and are smooth/calm. Are these slicks? I don't know how subtle the "oil sheen" is on slicks. I'm lost

Does anyone have a picture or a video of a slick you would find in the bay system (not a video of an obvious chum oil slick for shark fishing) Much appreciated!!

A slick is chum oil, The trout are eating and the oils is from the prey that is chomped..... They start small and spread with the wind.

You can also smell them. They have a watermelony smell. You want to fish them where they originated. The bigger the slick the further away from the spot it originated from.

Crab traps will create slicks too, as will other predatory fish like gafftop.

They are a good sign, and I like to see them, but I seem to do better when I can find nervous bait.
