    Hey 15,
If you go with the pvc, make sure you get 1 1/2" sch 40. The smaller stuff won't allow the rod butt to enter, too small if you're using surf type rods. You will find that if you pound on em hard they will break.

Sorry B&P, just read your recomend for 1 1/2" PVC. I have used sch 80 in the past and it stands up to the pounding a little better.I,m an electrical contractor and have the stuff just layin around so....Surf fishin is a lot of fun. I don't do it anymore but the last times we did we were using our kayak to take the baits out. When I was much younger we would swim out to the third bar at night to cast then swim back in and put the rods in the pvc holders and drink beer. On the nights when the bulls were runnin thick you wouldn't make it back to the beach before you had one on! One night under a full moon we (three guys) caught over 50 before 2:00am.We was whooped after that...not to mention drunk out of our minds! I've got pics somewhere. That was at SLP at the "junk yard". Great times. There was a lot more beach there then, all washed away now.

Careful out there at the Pass. The sand is really dry. Was out there 2 days ago for a cruise thru to see who was fishing and it was not very relaxing. Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive and just luckily picking the right path off of the beach. Whew, couple of moments there....

If you take lights to fish at night, you might have a few people think your doing them a fovor and lighting up the water for their kids to play in. One thing is for sure, the tide comes in pretty fast if you park near the water at SLP under the bridge. BE careful and take a tow strap if you have one.

So we went out early Saturday morning and got our lines in the water around 8am just east of san luis pass. We had 4 rods going, using squid an dead shrimp on a twodrop leader with a 4oz pyramid weight anchoring.. Man the mullet were everywhere!! We didnt catch anything all morning tIl about 1230 when were reeling in our lines to go try the bay side. It turns out i had a decent size whiting on the end of my line. We decided to stay for another hour or so and caught two more whiting back to back! That was all to be had however. We trued the bay side wade fishing with bass assassins and a rapala x-rap but to no avail. It seems alot of people were frustrated at the lack of fish with the perfect weather conditions. Anyone else do any good? Maybe point out something we were doing wrong? Im glad we didnt get skunked but man it was not a very productive day...

Don't get discouraged 15. I've made way more waterhauls over my years of fishin than meathauls. I've been told that's why they call it fishin. You have to convince yourself that it's better to just be out there in Gods creation than workin at your job or at your house! You ought to see the sunrise 100 miles offshore in the bluewater. If that don't convince you that there is a God then you're lost.Keep tryin, those catchin days will happen. Tight lines and safe trips to ya!

My best advice to you is to PM JT, aqua pimp, Robalo, TTU Wader, clark08, Hogie70, or XtremeAngler on the topic. These guys like sitting on the beach, catching crabs, looking at the local talent, and soaking some rotten meat in the water while hoping for the best. These guys are well known experts in this arena. Good luck.
