  • Sharks in Dana/Como

Those big wakes I saw last week at GISP are most definitely sharks. They have to be... I think they are bulls. Read somewhere that they are territorial and makes sense because they weren't there two weeks ago and ever since they showed up, I see em every day tearin' and rollin the $..t out of big ars trout. Its time to but out the steel leader....

I have caught 4 bull sharks out of lake como it is no secret that West Bay has tons of sharks. We have caught plenty during the summer and yes right where everyone is floating and playing on noodles...

Do you put a balloon on the string and let it free swim or use a surf rig spider weight deal? I went out yesterday but had a hard time catching big mullet in all the wind.

I didn't think they would be in the bay yet, i figured it would be another month or so until they showed up

I havn't seen the definitive dorsal fin but I can't imagine these things being anything else but sharks.

i don't like to use weights because it's so shallow. I like to put one on a balloon to get it away from the boat, then just free line the rest of the baits.

How big a hook? 12/0 circle?

Yeah, a 12/0 circle will work just fine. We've even used 8/0 circles

I use 9/0 - 11/0 personally... Baloon floats w/ 400LB main lines tied back to 200 lb tied onto 100lb then onto 65lb braid.

Lake Como has a large gar population. They swim just under the surface & spash and surface the water sometimes busting small fish. Many people mistake them when they pop up & roll over as sharks because they don't know any better.

I have seen a pretty big bull in a cove on the south shoreline. Would have been a blast on the fly rod. I saw a shark up in Harbor Walk this past summer. Still have not seen one on the north shoreline which surprises me.

Def not a gar. There is a large gar that swims around Laffites and I see it all the time loafing around and coming up for air and you can hear a little "bloooop." These things are swimming from the geotubes that separate dana/como (running north/south) to the houses on lake como in like 8 seconds.
