  • Shimano sedona question

ive had this shimano sedona 2500fb for a while now, every once in a while when I cast the lunge gets knoted ask it comes out, so I had new line put on and bougth a new rod. So I know its the reel what could be causing this. Thanks

I do not know what a lunge is, I'll assume you meant to say line.

    The rod does not matter.

Was the line spooled correctly? I've seen the guys at Academy doing this improperly, and I've watched in horror as my own friends have done it.

Do you reel in when the drag is going out? This will cause super line twist.

Do you employ a swivel when using twisting lures? Same as above.

Agree with Coachlaw-put new line on it. Lay the line spool on its side so it comes off in loops. Only baitcasters are supposed to be in line with the spool (in other words, the spool of new line should be in the same orientation as the spool you are loading it onto regardless of reel type and not at 90 degree angles-I hope that splains it well). Never reel while drag is going out on a spinning reel-it twists the line. On spoons and twisting lures, use a swivel to decrease line twist. If the line is messed up, replace it-on spinning reels I replace them about 2-3 times more often than a baitcaster just because spinning reels twist line easier.

Whoa, I'm going to very respectfully disagree with the line loading technique mentioned by the honorable Robalo. I take mine off the spool straight and never have a problem.

Straight off the spool with some tension. Also, if you try to cast to hard with a spinning reel, it will twist a knot in your line. You might want to consider stepping up one size!

I don't use swivels I like to use the double uni-knot for the leader, and for new line I get them done at ftu.

Load line the same way it comes off your reel. See this link: http://fishingnoob.com/114/how-to-lo...spinning-reel/

Basically, line goes on the same way it comes off any reel-so baitcasters are "in line" and spinning reels are not-if ya load a spinner the same way you do a baitcaster, you are twisting the line.

what kind of line ru using. I use spin'n reels exclusively and have quit using mono or fluoro line because of the memory problem. I have found that 40 lb power pro braid works best for me, granted you do have the occasional tip wrapping especially when it is windy but no memory issues or line stretch.

I'm using braided. Im thinking about going with 10lbs braided power pro. I'm using 8 lbs rigth now.

I would go somewhere where you can let all the line out till the knot, then crank it all back on tight.

no go with a 30/40lb braid it has about the same line diameter as 12lb mono and is stiffer reducing the tendency to wrap your tip. use 40lb power pro because it is stiffer than most other braids.

I did that on sunday while we were out in the water it didn't help I'm gonna go for a new line, but that method has worked for me before. I guess the lunge is that' bad.

so i put some new line on the reel 10 diameter 40lbs braided, and its doing the same thing tried letting line out while out in the bay today and it did not help does anyone know what can go wrong with the reel for it to keep knotting my line, the reel feels and sounds good, i keep up with it lubed up and all. i was just wondering if they may be a part on the reel that can go bad and cause this. thanks again

Maybe you overspooled it? Hope you get it fixed. I love my Sonoras!
