  • Bass Assassins - What's your go to colors

I carry just about every color I think they make and use a lot of the different colors with good results depending on the water color and time of year. On those tough days when the fish seem to be lock-jawed I tend to either fall back on Pumpkin Seed & Chartreuse or Space Guppy. So what are y'all's go to colors?

    Off colored...pumpkin seed is good.

But for all around color...I stick with red shad as my go to bait, and this mount is all I have to say about that.

28 1/2 East G-Bay 8.5#...when that red shad hit the water, this baby came out of the water a good 2' when she busted it.

Yep, that make me stick with a color also, even if I never caught another fish on it....

Year before that I caught a 28" 8# on the South shoreline of East with the exact same color...I could see it chasing glass minnows in about 8" of water and it wouldn't take a corky or a topwater, but when I threw that red shad...she was all over it like trout candy!

My all around go to color is Plum/char. This bait works for me in muddy water, clear water, and milky green water. If they don't eat this bait they ain't eat'n!!!!!

Other baits I like for certain conditions would be Morning glory (black), Redshad, and Limetreuse ( mainly for dirty to off-colored water conditions).

Firetiger, bone diamond, and diamond chartreuse for really clear water applications.

A few others I like are chickon on a chain, space guppy, pumpkinseed/char, roach, and dayglow char.

My biggest Trout on Bass Assassins have been caught on plum/Char and Red Shad. Those two baits always seem to catch the big ones. The Red Shad I like to dip the tails in Flo Orange.

All baits rigged on 1/8ounce to 1/16 ounce. Nothing heavier.

I use the gulp jerk shads in the fire tiger color (green top, orange bottom). Ran out last weekend and switched to new penny and caught a fat trout on that too.

What retrieve do ya'll do? I've been having luck pulling it medium fast ~3' up into the water, then letting it slowly fall with tiny twitches. Love to feel that "tap" on the fall...

I'm also on a 1/16 oz jighead kick. I think the slow sink really helps out when they are not biting strong. I'll sacrifice the extra casting distance and contact with the lure.

                  What Pimp say's..

Plum/chartreuse and space guppy are two I carry also.I also concur on the lighter jigs. The only time I use 1/4 to 3/8 is when drifting in higher winds.

Also, When fishing springtime around the Seabrook Flats, I generally throw white but tail dipped chartreuse. I don't know what it is about that color and the Seabrook Flats, but I've had some very good luck there with it. I mean 23 -25" trout when no one else was catching squat.

Although I like assassins, lately I throw nothing but sand eel jrs and brown devil eyes with rootbeer or similiar colors being my faves. They're a little more resiliant on aggresive trout bites

I feel the same way, those are my go to soft plastics. I love them!

My go to color (the one I have the most confidence in really) is Plum/Chartreuse tail. I always seem to get a hit or two on it. I also like to throw Pumpkinseed/Char Tail sand eels and Black/Char tail. Those are my main three, but there are a few others I have started fishing with a lot more recently. Down south, Red/White tail, period. Murders 'em everytime, no matter what bait it is! Good luck.

You know I do have favorite colors for where I'm fishing also.
East Bay would be darker colors like Red Shad but also Morning Glory.
                      Seabrook is White/Chartreuse tail
                      Jones is Space Guppy
SLP is Pumpkin/Chartreuse tail or Electric Chicken (Pink Corky in the spring).
West Bay has to be Woodpecker, specially in the winter, but Plum/Chartreuse tail is a close second
TC area is Punpkin/Chartreuse tail (DayGlow Corky this time of year)

Man come to think, I have many go to colors depending on where I'm at....

I almost always start off with pum/char or plum/char in the 5" swimming shad.

The plum/char is definately my confidence bait. Like the Pimp said it seems to work well in all water conditions. I also like red/white and I'm starting to use the 10w40 now
