Forecast tomorrow morning for Gilchrist, Texas
    5am: 49 degrees, wind N at 9

Forecast tomorrow morning for Galveston, Texas
    5am: 57 degrees, wind NNW at 17

Apparently La Nina has struck East Bay and it will be 10 degrees cooler and light winds east of the ship channel tomorrow. Morons.

Here's a forecast you can count on. At 4 am tomorrow morning, a blue suburban will be pulling out of my driveway. The driver will have boudin on a biscuit in one hand and coffee in the other. Capt Mickey will be blathering on radio. My wading boots will be stinking up the truck because I probably didn't rinse them well last week. The wind will be blowing or it won't. It will be cooler or warmer than it is today. The tide will be somewhere between high and low.

Not an idiot, in fact not uncommon at all. It can be slick calm in East Bay and blowing 10-15 over West Bay.

LOL on your forecast! Gonna go by it and head out myself, early. I expect winds between 3 and 70 MPH. Who gives a poot what the weatherman says.

There ya go. I just had 4 beers with a couple of guys from the National Weather Service, the NWS. One was retiring and the other was his rookie replacement. No way they are allowed to show up half lit but the older one said his best forecasts had the benefit of actually being outside and having a few beers. That's right, the weather operation room he sits in is all computers and electronics and doesn't even have a window!

Most of these NWS guys, not many women, worked in the services on weather detail like Air Force, Navy air stations, and other military branches where they got their training ... and then some go to meteorology school like A&M. Very strict culture with training, certification, levels, grade in pay, and the district weather chief with other chiefs organized just like the Marines are something. It is a federal job and yes their forecasts do suck sometimes - but you try to do that. Try to walk in their shoes a little bit.

Remember, no windows or peeking outside, and no beer.
