You lucky duck! I've always wanted to go flyfishing in colorado. My friend has some land up there and goes every summer. He even does some part time guiding. There's a lot of nice trout to be caught up there. Good luck! You never know what the tide might bring

I go to Durango every summer with my family. If you are headed to that part of Colorado, I would be happy to give you as much information as you want on the area, fishing opportunities, etc.
When I learned to fly cast, my wife got me some casting lessons through a local fly shop. The lessons weren't too expensive, they provided the rod and I learned the basics of fly casting, roll casting, etc. From there I bought my first rod, fished for panfish here and trout in CO.
I wouldn't worry too much about learning to make 70 foot casts and landing the fly on target. A good deal of the flyfishing I have seen in SW Colorado is in small rivers or tight spaces. A quasi competent 25' fly cast or good roll cast is more than adequate. Don't be afraid to show up totally green and give it a try - I've seen a number of guys do it and with a little prepractice and knowledge of what flies to use you can have a good ol time."Shut up and jerk your croaker" - James Fox
