Reel interesting! Over the years I've broken a few rods but usually it was at the tip. LOL, had to take the rod in for a new tip job. I read up on my bigger inshore pole, the Shimano Taramar, and it lists a bunch of what the Loomis guy said about action, modulus, and such. Cool stuff.

Its funny hearing how guys break some of these newer rods, and expect the makers to believe it was done on a fish.... when in fact it was from abuse

It's the same way in any business. As a jewler, I had lots of people bring me broken jewelry telling me "I just dropped it and it broke". What they should have said was, "I just dropped it and then ran over it repeatedly with my truck"!

I have never honestly broken a rod, or seen one broken, of any quality while fighting a fish. I can't even see how a bay rod would break unless you had the 20+ lbs of drag cranked up on your new bait caster with 50lb braid and really wanted to get a big fish up quick, or pull loose of a snag. I bet I don't even use 5 lbs of drag. Offshore it gets completely different when you're trying to turn a big snapper/grouper/ufo away from the hole it wants to go back in, but still I bet most breaks are due to the rod hitting the bow rail or gunnel.

I snapped an offshore rod, although it might have been due to the fact it got stuck under the cleat whole the fish was diving lol

I sanpped a rod about two feet from the tip on the hookset on a trout in the surf. Surprised the chit out of me!

Well I have only broken one in a tailgate, until today snapped it off a foot from the tip getting a sandie off. Sucks it was my favorite rod.
