  • Urgent Response Requested

From Bill Olson editor of Texas Outdoors Journal

To all friends of the outdoors, particularly anglers and boaters.

We need to respond in mass to all this proposed increase in Ethanol in our gasoline. I've had personal experience and loss due to Ethanol. It dissolved the fiberglass resin in the fuel tank of "Miss Ann." This resulted in over $11,000 worth of repairs to both engines that had just been re-built. Plus we had to fabricate a new aluminum fuel tank.

Furthermore, the old rule of keeping your fuel tank full is no longer valid with Ethanol. Since Ethanol produces water over time, it is reported to be better to not top off your fuel tank. Ethanol also has a shorter shelf-life.

The politicians in Washington continue to respond to lobbyists. The farmers are behind it and the increase of ethanol will not only damage our engines and marine market, but also make food prices sky rocket.

Please click on the link below and send an email to the EPA. Also please pass this on to all that fish or boat.

We are posting this on the TEXAS OUTDOORS JOURNAL website (www.texasoutdoorsjournal.com) and this week will have a segment on my syndicated TEXAS OUTDOOR NEWS radio.

A Portion of the Article is below:
Not satisfied by the high food prices that 10% Ethanol gasoline has wrought, the farmers and ethanol-makers are now petitioning the EPA to approve 15% ethanol on the way to 25%. Not only will this raise the price of food stuffs in the U.S., it will ruin most marine engines. Not one engine manufacturer approves the use of their engines with gasoline with a mixture greater than 10% ethanol. There are 18 million boats currently in operation in the U.S., and none of them have been designed, certified or warrantied to run on anything above E10. Already, with just 10% ethanol, the engine makers are inundated with service and repair problems that have stretched their reduced staffs to the breaking point. Boaters across America have had to pay for new carburetors, seals, O-rings, valves and fuel tank replacements. Unless all boaters act swiftly and with passion, the well-financed ethanol lobby will steamroll the EPA into 15% ethanol. Last year boaters were able to defeat an onerous EPA measure in Congress, and this year we again call on you to register your thoughts again to defeat the 15% ethanol proposal.

Sent mine-the bastages at EPA and BHO.

Thanks Coe. If all of us send this, maybe they won't ruin our boats and motors. My 23 Robalo is getting a new gas tank now and will cost mucho dinero. Dang Ethanol. I already put $60 worth of filters in my new Skeeter due to ethanol. Hate the stuff (unless pure, unadulterated and potable).

"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

I sent mine in early this morning! One thing to think about is that Ethanol seeks water out and will grab it from cendensating tanks, ect.. It will also vigerously attack any varnish and gummed up stuff in your tank. You would think that's good but when it all comes out at once it cloggs filters, fuel injectors ect... Horrible for those older fiberglass resin tanks, sorry for that Coe!

I have used Startron in my tanks which is specifically made for ethanol blends. They say it bonds to the water agents to make them small enough that the engine doesn't get a gulp of the water, but fine particles mixed in to help combust it without engine failure.

I don't have all the details off hand but I have spoken to a few people that sya it's good stuff.

That said go sign that paper to keep them from upping the ethanol from 10% to 15%. Remember ethanol has a lower "power/btu/energy per portion" rating that gasoline so the same 10, 20, 50 gallons will not produce the same power and therefore you WILL use more fuel to get where you're going, plus have less power doing it.

This is the very reason that I run a pint of Sea Foam thru every 20 gallons of fuel and do a carb treatment about every 15 trips with it too.
