  • New guy, what is the best artificial bait to use (burnett bay)??

This is new guy again, hope you guys don't get tired of me asking stupid questions.. What is the best kind of artificial baits to use in burnett bay?? and what is caught mostly in that area?? I have a 17.5' Lund deep v boat and will it be suitable for the bay area. it will float in about 1 and 1/2' of water.

My mainstay in my tackle box is the Hackberry Hustler made by Texas Tackle Factory. They are sold at Academy and many of the other sporting good stores. The bait is awesome on the three main fish we target (trout, red fish and flounder) as it has great tail action.

cochahoe minows, cheap and easy to use. throw it out and real it back in at different speeds until you find what they want.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Very good choice, lots of bang for the buck. I've never used it but that Gulp scented bait seems to work for some.

Here is a question for you, I take you out in my boat & we pull up to the spot, you grab your rod & tie on your favorite lure, I laugh at you & tell you that lure won't catch fish here you need one of these, do you switch lures?
            Today is a new day!!

I think I agree but may give a new man to salt water an edge.

I switch lures, cause you know the area and the saltwater, I don't and dont pretend to

the question will get a million different responses cause everyone likes there own stuff the main thing is if the fish or biting it wont matter and if they are not get your self a rotation of baits depending on what you are most confident in and use the right style bait for the right depth of water the water color and the type of bottom.

Dawg has a point. A lot of it has to do with confidence in what you use. I'm sure you know that from where you fish before. Heck a lot of saltwater baits can be used in fresh too (ie caught a few bass off of my hackberrys) and vice versa.

I knock you out and you wake up laying on the front deck at the boat ramp

Just kidding! I change my lure and learn what you are offering (I mentally cuss you for laughing at me).

Search some of the threads about various artificials. We all have different favorite colors and types. When I first started fishing the only bait I used was Gulp and it worked well for me. As I fished more I tried different lures and techniques. Right now, my two favorites are topwaters and corkies. Pick a lure and learn to work it. You'll gain confidence and knowledge as you go.

hackberry hustler or texas trout killers made by texas tackle factory on a 1/4 or 1/2 oz jig head is what i like. All of burnett is ~5-6 ft deep with scattered shell, just cut drifts across the bay with the wind, cast with the wind and work the lure off the bottom, not too much to get hung up on out there, you can catch trout and reds out there, with some occasional flounder, if the weather is right I might be going there this weekend, you can join in or follow me around if you want.
