  • West End Houses

I'm currently on a "5 year plan" on moving away from the coast. I live down in the Lake Jackson area and work up around I-10 and hwy 6. I'm ok making the drive a while, but don't wnat to make it for the next 30 years or whatever. My wife also works in Houston. So we both make a 50-80 mile trip one way a day. So our plan is to move up towards that area, but I have grown up on the coast my whole life and never been futher then 10 minutes away to have the baot in saltwater, so I'm really struggling with the thought of it. The only way I will be happy is if I get a house on the water somewhere. Honestly I'll probably wind up down around Sargent, however, the west end is an option, it's just I like E. Matty a lot more then Galveston, but I can adapt. I know there are tons of little communities down there, can ya'll give me some names of them so I can start looking. I'm not really looking for a 300k house, which may for sure put me down in Sargent. I know they are a lot more expensive on the West End but figured I shoudl at least look. Thanks.

Jamaica, Spanish Grant, Sea Isle. I'd start with those 3. I'm sure others have additional subdivisions they can input on.

There should be plenty of options down that way on the west end. Start at Jamaica Beach and just head west from there.

A lot of people are giving up their homes right now for really good prices...but a lot of them have some hurricane damage that hasn't been fixed yet. Right now may be a good time to get a great deal.

For example, there is one house that needs about $ 15,000 worth of work done to is down the stair from our place in Terramar and it was selling for $ 400K plus, but now they are asking $ 266K. It is on a lot that faces west with great views, but it is on a wetland, so no boats allowed.

They gave you some good suggestions. Just remember, the dang insurance is getting stupid-my house is about $200k in coverage and I pay $6k/year for flood, wind and homeowners. That is the biggest drawback. You should be able to find a nice place in Jam Beach or Sea Isle for about 170k on a canal. Not anything big or very new.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary.
