I am 17 and when i get out of school i want to look at becoming a guide and would like to no what it takes and if a local guide would like me to shadow them for a day or two on the water, p.m. me if so, or for any information.

Tough work. getting up daily at 3-4 am, making sure boats ready, equipment is ready, etc., staying on fish every day, having potlickers tell everyone where ya go/went and them hitting your spots, all different sorts of clients from good folks to complete jerks. Little time for family/kids since hours are long and time is little. With all that being said spend every last minute learning everything you can about the fish and the food they eat, and learn everything you can about providing customer service and being with people so they are both entertained and know you did everything you could to put them on fish. You're gonna have to learn to read people to do that, some parties won't want to learn anything and they just want to drink and fish and tell jokes, others will want to learn everything you teach them, and won't care for the jokes you've got to decide who is who and provide what they want. ... and no, i'm not a guide... I do fish porn.

I say follow your dream...but stay in school and get a primary gig first. You don't necessarily have to do whatever your degree is in, but to have that as a back up sure would come in handy when your tired of the other. Journalism, business, biology, or any course at Texas A&M Galveston could help back up your guiding career...and make you more of a success!Don't be a Nancy!

Very few guides make a full time living guiding...
So work on the education thing first so you have a main source of income as over the course of a few years you can build a clientel and get nice things like a boat
Do what you love... But guiding is not just taking guys fishing...
You have to be a mechanic, a teacher, and someone who can go on little sleep.....and don't forget you have to know how to fish in bad conditions and find fish when no one else canFISH CONTROL MY BRAINComment
