  • Interesting afternoon

We came back from our fishing around noon, have lunch, then walk down to the bar (75 yards away).

I meet a group of people, obviously led by their patriarch. I introduce myself to him. He only says his name is "Jim". I ask him what he did. He says that he is retired from flying. I ask him "airline?". He only says "No - I was a naval aviator".

His grandson quietly and discretely fills in the rest. "Jim" is James Lovell - astronaut - Apollo 13. 1970 - aborted mission to the moon - you saw the movie. Jim was played by Tom Hanks. He is now 84.

Jim never mentioned anything about space.

He had a sparkle in his eye that could take you to the moon today.

Sorry - I have no pictures, bit Jim does. He spent the afternoon taking pictures of us!

Cool. I know Pete Conrad's son -Pete Jr., and he had a picture signed by all the Apollo astronauts and gave it to Dolph Briscoe. Lovell and Conrad-heck all of them were something else. Cool.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

Cool! I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years ago when he was Keynote Speaker at a Safety Conference. What a life you live!

        Thanks for sharing.

          Crazy...

You met the real Jim Lovell and I met the guy that played him in the movie.

            WOW! That's freakin' cool!
From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

Very cool. Once in a lifetime meeting with one of the "right stuff" guys.
Correction: the right stuff astronauts were the Mercury 7. But, hey...
