  • Looking for a trailer for a 14ft boat

I bought a 14ft center console Mckee Craft over the weekend. The trailer that came with it is pretty beat up. Does anyone have an aluminum or galvanized trailer they'd sell that would fir a 14ft boat?

It's pretty rusty. I can take a picture later this week. There are some areas where it has rusted completly through some of the structural beams. I'm not sure if a peice of channel can be bolted or welded up to reinforce the trailer for a little while or not. I need to just buy a new one but don't have the money.

I have these pictures on my computer. They don't show the rust too well but there are areas where the metal is rusted through. On the drive back from Clute the middle roller (approx 10-12") broke off it was so rusty.

I ground the rust off my old Sportsman dual axle trailer frame, welded 1/4" plate where the rust had rusted through and then bondo'ed the hole on other side of welded plate, tried to buy gallon of Cold Gal paint (not available anywhere I checked-prolly some EPA BS) and used 15 cans of cold gal spray paint after laying on a thick primer after first spraying rust away all over it to cure/stop the rust, then had McClain's build new axles with hubs and springs and put it all back together. Cost $1600 or so, plus 20 hours of work.

Your frame looks decent-looks like some surface rust-a little rust stop, some primer and cold gal paint would cure that. -the fenders are done but that can easily be replaced-axles will run about $400+ with new hubs and springs and looks like most brackets are good except the roller brackets which should be fairly cheap. Can't tell if your axle is farged, but likely your springs are. You shoulda seen mine-all crossmembers were rusted in center and when chipped and grinded, nice holes appeared!! My guess is that for about $600, you'd have an almost new trailer if ya put 15 hours time into it also.

I'll take some pictures of the frame up close when I get it back later this week. I'm hoping someone can drill a few holes and bolt on a piece of c-channel that would reinforce the rear cross beam. Not sure if that would work.

It's a small boat so a new trailer is only $1200. If I can get it fixed for a couple of hundred bucks or less than its worth keeping a while.

Can anyone in Houston weld a new rear crossbeam for the trailer? It's galvanized. I'm not sure if any shops can do that.

Man Bobcat, I don't think I have ever seen as many buying/upgrading/getting into it posts from a FWE member. You got it bad! Where do you work, are they hiring?

Just called over there and spoke to a guy named Glenn. He said they don't do trailer repair and to talk to Mcclain.

Did ya look at 2 cool for sale ads? I believe some guy had a 13 and 15' trailers for cheap? One was no title, so swap out your trailer's plate and unless the guy sold a hot one, ya should be good. The scrap metal value for your old one is prolly $100???

BTW, plate to Galvanized is fine-it's the aluminum that takes some real skill to weld IMO. Just file/brush and clean the welds, then primer, then cold galvanized paint.

Robalo, yeah I looked on there. There were a few longer trailers but thats it. I remember seeing the 15ft trailer ad. I tried contacting the guy but didn't hear back.
