The importance of having an occupation after retirement......

As we get older we sometimes begin to doubt our ability to "make a difference" in the world. It is at these times that our hopes are boosted by the remarkable achievements of other "seniors" who have found the courage to take on challenges that would make many of us wither.

Harold Schlumberg is such a person:

Well...I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background and one of the things I enjoy most is converting beer, wine and whisky into urine.

It's rewarding, uplifting, satisfying and fulfilling. I do it every day and I really enjoy it."

An old-timer showed me how to make Texas style wine out of wild Mustang grapes. Mashed and strained grapes, a ton of sugar, and several packs of champagne yeast. Never saw anything like it, a bucket with a little balloon on top of the paint bucket lid. "When she pops in a few days, she's ready." Darndest thing I ever saw. Even stranger, he dipped it out of the nasty bucket and served it over ice cubes - prolly thought I was a lightweight. Man was he right, one cup I was stoned and two I was solid gone! Tasted like grape flavored moonshine.
