  • Navigating West Bay into Christmas Bay

    Pardon the newb thread.

Looking at Google Maps trying to figure out the best way into Christmas Bay. Is it even navigable? Right now I'm thinking of taking the IWC west and cutting in through Bastrop Bay.

From West Bay to Xmas is a long boat ride with nothing to offer you... Why would you leave west bay to fish xmas??? lol better fishing and better fish are in west bay...

Thanks. Still learning the area. Just read of cleaner water and ample sight casting opportunities.

x-mas can be good but not very often and you have to know where to go.very shallow bay with lots of reefs to hit.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Go through san luis pass off of bird isalnd there is a series of pole on the east side... They look like they dont mark anything but that is the cut it zigs and zags... LOL keep the poles on your left coming from west bay to san luis pass... Now going from san luis pass through cold pass is another sandbar nightmare... OK once you get into cold pass, treasure island is going to be the 3 boat cuts on the south side... Stay to the south and follow the treasure island shoreline and when you clear the last house if you follow the shoreline maybe 30 yards away you should be in the cut... There is a pole marking the sandbar to the south keep it on your right and head towards the end of old pier... Your first big cut on the left is church hill bayou... Follow church hill bayou around... there is alot of cuts off of this bayou that holds good water for sight casting... BUT at the end of the bayou there is a series of poles stay in between the poles and welcome to xmas bay...

Succinct and unerring. Hasbeen, don't be skeered. It's a fun run. Bring a push pole and a few beers. When you're not sure, take it slow.
