A barge brushed the Galveston Causeway railroad bridge about 9:30 a.m. Friday, causing a closure of the Intracoastal Waterway.
The eastbound barge was the lead vessel among four empty barges being pushed by the tugboat Cindy R, said Petty Officer Christopher Short of the U.S. Coast Guard.
The barge brushed against the pilings of the BNSF Railway Co. bridge, he said.
Neither the bridge nor barge appeared to suffer any harm, but the Coast Guard closed the waterway to allow inspectors to check for damage, he said.
BE CAREFUL TRYING TO GET UNDER THAT RR BRIDGE-LOTTA DEBRIS.
