  • 1998 Yamaha Pro V 150 hp engine problem. please help!!!

I have a 21 ft. V hull shallow sport with a 1998 ProV Twin Prop Yamaha on it. Its been a really awesome motor with no problems at all. Went fishing last Friday and it won't run over 1900 RPM without trying to shut down. I have plenty of water pressure, Changed the plugs, They looked good and were getting oil. The fuel filter is new although I have run it down to less than a gallon of gas in it. May of picked up some trash but I doubt it because the fuel tank is brand new with its first 6o gallons of gas. Since I filled it with new gas last time I ran it with no problems. Then I take it out this last Friday and it won't run over 1900 RPM without going into the shutdown mode. Has anyone had this similar problem or know whats wrong with t.

    thanks,
    Gary Brandt

Try a spare portable tank and see if it's the fuel. Easy to check doing that way, just need a yammie connector, portable gas tank, hose and pump ball. Change the filter also-lotta bad water-downed gas around. If it aint fuel-I aint got a clue. Good luck and let us know.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

Its running perfect, idleing perfect up to 1900RPM. Its got two fuel pumps. I am thinking one pump might be bad. I have owned the motor since new and never changed the fuel pumps out. Just a thought. Trying to narrow it down. Thanks for your suggestions.

Heres more details that might help: 1998, model D150TLRW:

Its been running great. Had it out six times this summer. It gets used mostly in the summer and some in th spring. Had the carbs worked on about three years ago. I have been cranking it every couple months since they were worked on. I have owned the motor since it was new. I have never changed the fuel pumps. It has two is that correct? Could one be bad? This last time I had it out i idled up on a reef and had to push it off. It was still dark thirty in the morning. It was breaking day so I put it up on plane and went about a mile and my hot buzzer came on. I noticed it was not peeing very good. So i pushed a toothpick up in the hole (all I had) that would fit and it started peeing good. Set there for about 30 minutes cranked it up and th buzzer was still on but the water comming out of the pee hole was cold. It would not get up on plane so I idled about 1/4 mile to the reef I wanted to fish. Stayed there for 1 1/2 hrs. drifting. Was not catching much so when about a mile to another reef and it was was not buzzing but would not run over 1900 RPM without trying to shut down when you went full throtle. Put it in reversed ad gased it hard thinking I might have some shell from that reef I got stuck on. Seem like the RPM got up pretty high, higher than 1900 when I did tat in reverse. Went forwrd and it still would not run more than 1900 RPM. Motor idled and ran good up to 1900 RPM. Took it in about 2mile run at 1800 RPM with no buzzer. Put a new set of plugs in it and it still does the same thing. No buzzer and will not run over 1900 without trying to cut back in a safe mode. Hope this helps. What do you think?
