  • Fix Up Your Boat Lift In The Off Season

I tell all of my customers to fix up their boat lifts in the off season, never wait until the last minute. Usually when the weather breaks everyone heads to their boat, the last thing you want is an inoperable lift. If it's happening to you it most certainly is happening to others. When you call you local boat lift guy he might be slammed with business which means a delay in getting your boat lift working & you out on the water. Circumvent this by fixing up your lift in the off season. Take a look at your lift & inspect these few areas for possible repair or replacement:

    • Inspect all cables, if you see burrs replace immediately. If it's been longer than 3 years since you've replaced cables, then you need to replace.
    • Inspect cable clamps for deterioration & replace accordingly.
    • Look at all attaching hardware for corrosion, if you see rust or pitting replace where needed.
    • Turn on the lift, does the motor work? If not identify if it's a switch issue or a motor issue. Check the electrical flow as it goes into the switch & as it goes out to the motor. If you have 120 volts coming into the switch but only 90 coming out you need to replace the switch. If you get good flow through the switch but the motor isn't turning, replace the motor.
    • If you have a belt driven unit inspect the drive belt, if you see wear & tear then buy an extra belt to place on the shelf in the garage for the "just in case" scenario.

The inspection process is pretty simple, look for the obvious areas that need attention & repair/replace as needed. Thanks, hopefully this will help some of you.....
