Personally, I never fish someone else’s lights, even though they may be set up in a public right of way and therefore the owners are taking their chances with bystanders using it, I personally do not it as a courtesy. When we have a rod bowed over, no one likes to be pushed up on by others and to me this is not any different. Fishing some ones lights (without first asking) or moving in on another boat or cutting off a drift or a wader or any of that shows a lack of courtesy. It’s hard to tell sometimes if people do it out of lack of courtesy or just plain stupidity, but if its do to a lack of courtesy, I think these kinds of forums are good way to get the word out and discuss as a group what is proper etiquette. Hopefully, if we all practice what we preach, others will see and follow.
I agree. I know that the kayaker who crossed our path on Saturday at the North Jetty realized he was way to close and couldn't do anything about it. Me saying something would have just made it worse, but to be intentionately hit by a flying lure is crazy... Those canals are not that wide that if you are passing thru and there are fisherman fishing that particular dock.

First of all welcome to our site. Please post in our welcome forum introducing yourself.

With that said, please re-read the first post as it was clearly stated he saw them fishing and hugged the bulkhead on the opposite side and was still hit in the head, which in my mind is entirely inappropriate he's showing the kids that its okay to do it. He was in a kayak of all things... not like he's making that much noise.

As far as retaliation if you can't see were joking around then buddy your in for a world of hurt on this forum

Again welcome and post up on the welcome forum.

As we have all come to see in our days and nights on the water there are some real Aholes out there and none of them smell good. This was just plain wrong, and I feel for you as a fellow yaker. You did good letting it go for the kids sake, even if those kids have some real winners teaching them the ways of the world. Hopefully someone will knock that Ahole in the head, it will likely be sooner than later if he acts like that all the time......

I got a better idea in how to retaliate:

You could hire Mike Tyson to go eat his kids!

What kind of lure was it and did you at least keep the lure?

It was a DOA shrimp look alike that bounced off my hat and lodged onto my shirt.... oh yeah.. btw.. if anyone finds a TTF rod w/ a curado and a white croaker lure attached in the canal of Island De Sol in the horseshoe/square bend on the opposite side of the boat ramp somewhere.. that would be mine! it went for a swim while i was paddling... it was a great way to start off the bday. ha.

                      What a fricken arsehole.
I don't know what I'd done but it most likely
would had involved running my mouth.

Some of these guys that live on these canals make me laugh LOL. They think they own everything down there! Sorry guys but you don't own the water or these canals, if you don't want anyone fishing the light, TURN THEM OFF! You hit me with a lure on purpose I'm comming out of the water to put a Foreverlast wading boot in your arse!!!!!! I love the guys that sit on thier porch waiting for boats to come by so they can monitor the boats wake LOL. When I had my lights on my pier I didn't care if someone fished them aslong as I wasn't fishing them. I left mine on all night most of the time so other could fish them.

That's some BS right there. I think i would of paddled on by and got to my vehicle and then payed them a little visit by land. People like that need an arse whoppin' so next time they would think twice about throwing a lure at someone. WoW!

                            Hi,
The point I was trying to make in a previous post was that it could be this guy with the lights was acting out against the same frustration we all experience on the water. I don’t know the whole situation, but it could be he thought the guy on the yak was moving in so he acted on it and in a way that any one of us have probably thought about doing and many probably have. Maybe the guy in the yak was only passing by and was making a genuine best effort to do so and the guy at the lights over reacted, or maybe the guy at the lights had someone else move in earlier and thought these guys were part of the same ones, who knows. But we all have experienced frustration from people moving in and this guy reacted to it. I am curious, what if it were the guy at the light who had posted saying how he launched a lure at some guy getting way to close? What would be the thoughts on that? Personally there have been plenty of time I would have loved to launch a surf sinker, but I figure its not worth a potential fight back at the dock or on the water – which I have seen happen over this very thing. I have seen yaks and scooters get peppered with shot during duck season! And don’t even get me started on the guys with the jetski’s or water skiers.
So, it again is a case of the water being public and we all have to share it and respect each others “space” and use of it. No one owns any one part of it and the guys in the canals with the lights don’t own the canals either, just the lights - which we wouldn’t even be fishing if they were not there and on.......

I understand if he felt like we were "moving" in but the fact that one of my buddies paddled and then drifted by them aganist the wall on the other side as well... with me following him 5 minutes later should signify we are not trying to move in on their "space".

i'm also pretty sure that if ur able to target my head from 30-40ft away (is that how wide a canal is?), you pretty much know how to cast and should pull back when u see where its going to hit.. kinda like if your fishing a couple yards away from the bank and ur cast was a little to far. u yank it just enough so it wouldnt hit land and have it fall in the water.

Maybe karma's paying me back for smacking a FAT bullfrog with a lure at one of my dad's ponds back when i was a kid..
