  • Shark in the canal!

This was a first to me! So i got to my bayhouse in Terramar beach subdivision around 7:45 today and
didnt have time to put my boat in the water so i just decided to make a few cast into the canal, well i kept on seeing mullet jump like crazy & all the bait fish flying outta the water and couldnt figure it out, so i watched for a few minutes and supprisingly enough about a 4ft blacktip just came cruising through, back and forth, i couldnt believe what i was seeing i woulda never thought one of his size would come in so far! Has anyone else seen one in any subdivsions?

-sorry i couldnt a get picture of it my phone was dead..

I saw one in a foot of water back in a marsh on Sat on the south shoreline. Swam right past me wading. Also had one of my fish bitten in half on my stringer that morning by a different shark. Lots of em around right now.

            Shark in the canal!

Bout 3 years ago I had a bull try to eat the head off of a running trolling motor out near the pass. Scared the shite out of me -- almost threw me off the bow.

6-7' bulls are common in the canals. Makes me wonder when someone swimming in the canals will get bit. last year as I recall, someone landed a 6' bull in Jamaica Beach canals. I know the houses facing the bays catch quite a few large bulls.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Not sure but I think they spawned a month or two ago and the big females are laying pups in the back waters, several live baby shark of near 2 foot long that we call "pinkies" because they're ... well ... sorta pink on the belly side.

Bulls like brackish water and a big shark has a big belly that's gotta get fed. Problem is, most sharks like the bull have horrible eyesight and will launch themselves at anything that looks edible. Electrical current screws up the glands in their nose they use to track electromagnetic stuff. Yep, they'll eat trolling motors, green lights, and all kinds of stuff.

You want to see a fight, dolphins don't like sharks and the females usually surround the babies (which are about 3-foot long now) for protection. They'll ram the shark right in the belly! Kinda rare to see.

Nice to hear someone in Terramar is enjoying themselves! LOL We had a house on Martes til Ike came. My parents had to tear the house down.

We had a pair of underwater green lights and the biggest fish I saw was a 4' alligator gar. By the marina I saw a 6'-7' sunning themselves right next to the little pier there.

Now a shark.........never seen one or caught one there, but you are so close to the SLP, almost anything can be caught there.

I did take a few swims in the canal though. The canals there are much nicer than in BV. I used to swim up and down the canal at BV with a life jacket on just for the exercise. Didn't know I could have been shark bait. LOL
