  • Jones bay

I am headed to Jones Bay Sat. morning should be on the water by 5am. Please tell me the rain wont be till the afternoon..loll Just looking for some input as to whether it will be worth the drive, I am driving in from Conroe. I have fished the bay about 3 times with not much luck but I am trying to learn it. I don't have a power boat ,I will be in a yak. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have only fished Jones a couple of times with good results, but in a boat. As for the weather, it is unpredictable, so please be safe.

Sorry, in other words, I can not give you too much advise. I am sure there will be a few that can.

Looks like the weather will hold till the afternoon. I am kind of confused ,are trout deep and reds shallow?

Where are you launching , fat boys or the bait camp up the bayou ? I've launched a kayak at both places , and maybe fished it three times only . So , I'm no expert but I thought I would not give any advice sooner because I thought someone more familiar with jones would help out . For what it's worth , i would launch at the bayou bait camp ,I can't remember the name , and fish the drains and marshes , canal , down to where it opens up into jones . The boat Chanel hugs the west shoreline which has several drains to fish . You can go up the drains and if the water is high enough or if its windy afford protection than if in the bay . I haven't concentrated My efforts on the mid Bay Area . You have explore and see what looks fishy and for sign . I've launched at fatboy s and hugged the shoreline going north and saw reds . There are some marshes up there you can go in . I never did particularly well on my trips . I hope this helps a little . Good luck and let us know how it went .

I fixed it for you. They make a great burger that is a great close for the end of the day. Cold beer too.

Well not much to talk about, but I will fill you in anyway. We hit the water at 5:30 and the boat traffic was crazy ,I guess a lot of people go there to get bait. We ended up seeing one light on as we headed out to the RR tracks and caught a small trout on a tandem rig. I fished the shore line with a top water and my buddy was throwing a gulp pink mullet. Well the Gulp got a hard hit with nothing but half a bait left. slipped another on and about 3 casts later he lands a flounder, YAY first keeper. The thunder started and we realized we should not go far from the truck ,the lightning is what put the damper on things. We never went past the tracks and caught a few mangrove a few dink reds and lost one huge fish I think it was a bull red ,no turning it with 8lb. test. The storms chased us out ,still not a bad morning ,we got on the water and had a good time.
