I sold my dads 1962 aluminum Lone Star with a 60hp Gale motor to a man for $800 ten years ago. Motor ran but the hull needed the zillion rivets tightened. I told him all about the boat. They were happy as a lark. The boat was not up to most peoples standards these days but they bought what they could afford.

Before I got the boat I have now, I fished a 16' alumna craft with a 50 Johnson. Paid 2500 on Craig's and sold it a year later for 3500. Caught just as many fish out of it as any other boat I've been on.

I got my first boat in March of last year, 14' 1980 McKee Craft. Traded an old shotgun for it. The trailer was toast so i sold it for scrap ($60) It had a 1982 70hp Evinrude that had bad compression on all cylinders but I got $250 for it on craigslist. I ripped out the side mounted console and put a 35hp johnson tiller motor on it for $600. the same guy that sold me the motor had a stack of trailers on his property that he let me take my pick of for $50. 2 new tires and some bunks and i was ready to go. The first boat is all about getting on the water without begging friends/relatives or paying a guide. I basicallly got my whole set-up for about $400 and an old shotgun i paid $130 for 10 years ago.....Ofcourse I'm already tired of it and looking to get something else!
