Chocolate Bayou at 35 recon.

Went to check out the public boat launch off highway 35 to see if its good to launch kayak and I also brought my rod along to see if anything was biting. The launch would be easy for a kayaker. I fished for about an hour walking up to the bridge and back. The only lure I had was a roadrunner with a white gulp curly tail. I caught a long nosed gar by the bridge and that was the only fish caught in bayou. I also caught a little crappie in a slough by the launch. Those were the only hits I got. That was disappointing because I thought I might catch a bass or crappie in the bayou itself. Is there a fish able population of crappie in the bayou? If anyone has fished this area I would appreciate some tips.
