  • Fishing line color question?

What color braid fishing line do y'all recommend using for the greater Galveston Bay complex? If you had one go to color, what would it be? Thanks

I have always used moss green. I assume it would blend better than pink or blue in the bay waters. I also usually tie on a long flouro leader too.

I don't think it matters if you use a mono or flouro leader.

I am not sure it matters at all. I decided to give Sufix a try for reef trolling. I spooled a reel with 30# Sufix in camo green. My wife and I went out trolling. One rig had the Sufix, the other had Stren. We were trolling in bright sunlight the absolutely crystal clear water off of our place on Anegada. The camo green Sufix rig (with no leader) got more hits than the mono rig.

        Honestly, I was surprised.

I might have made a mistake with the 30# Sufix, though. It is on a medium-weight spinning rig. When I get snagged on the reef, it is a b**ch to break it off.

Thanks y'all. I do tie on a fluorocarbon leader. I was thinking the same about how it wouldn't matter much with a leader tied on. I was just wondering what you guys thought. Thanks. Y'all have a great day. God bless.

I tie directly to the jig head. Never had any problems loosing fish with both mono or braid. I've used clear and mossy green mono and mossy green braid. I've seen people use red color line and they catch fish. I guess as long as the fish don't get scared, it'll work. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.

Red is the first color to get filtered out in water. The idea is that it would be "invisible", but instead it's grey not invisible because of the color getting filtered out.

It's funny that lure manufacturers put red on baits so that the fish see it and think it's blood, and then the terminal tackle manufactures try and tell you they make red hooks and line so the fish can't see it.

Which is it an attractant or invisible?

Green 30 lb suffix with a 3 foot 30lb fluro leader works best for me

I guess Ive been spoiled for many years now on moss green 30# braid with a suffix ultra clear flouro 3' leader I always use a braid to mono tie never use barrel swivels but since I wade a lot I tie on a quick connect for fast lure change.. I have actually tried to fish for trout and the usual bay game fish and I have a very difficult time setting the hook with fluorocarbon. or mono on the reel. I cant seem to get the sensitivity down anymore.
