  • After being at other shops, we found the problem instantly.

Just wanted to post a few photos of some injectors we flowed and tested this morning. Customer complained motor wouldn't run over 2500 RPM's, but some times surges to 3000 RPM. Explained it's been in two other shops in the last 6 months. Told me he spent thousands trying to remedy the situation. He told me it was running 1500 RPM before 1st shop got it. So they replaced fuel pumps, VST Tank, and all Filters. They were able to get it to the current RPM range. Second Shop hit him with a new ECU and had no change. I spoke to him before he brought it in and assured I would not charge him a dime if Boat Werx couldn't figure it out. So my guys and I did some simple diagnostics to check fuel, fire, compression's, leak down, fuel restrictions, fuel pressures, air leaks in lines, and etc to insure the motor health was good before moving on. All Good, so started checking spark plug numbers, and gaping and all were good except colorization of spark plug electrodes. Burn rates were all over the place per cylinder. So i thought to myself, surely with all the fuel system replacements the customer paid for, they must have pulled the injectors and at least had them flowed???? So knowing we had the machines in house to flow and clean injection components, I told my Techs, let's pull them Calibrate, and run test on them and get back to me. Well they pulled them and immediately my Tech brings me the injectors and said you need to see this! Injector screens were full of trash, and flow test shows the issue well. I CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS NEVER CHECKED AND THREW PARTS AT IT! This gives us a bad name in the business! Just wanted to show the simple check of components before buying and replacing parts can save months of down time for a customer, as well as save thousands in un-needed ****!

I will post our findings and fuel re-flow once completed. All Load and impedance testings are good, looks like dirty injectors are the culprit for now.

I want to Leave this note here as well.

*** This customer did annual maintenance with Original Repair Shop for 4 years. This shows as well, just because your regular maintenance is replacing upto 11 in-line filters, shows here with our new ethanol blended fuels, that injection components such as injectors, and fuel rails need to be addressed as well.

If this would have been a 2 stroke motor, it would have burnt up a cylinder!

    ENJOY THE PHOTOS

Nice work. Mystery solved, and that is a big relief for your new "customer for life".

Finally got all them flowing close to spec after several cleanings. Still would have liked to replace #2 and #5 but customer is limited after all he spent prior to us getting it. Boat is now running 5,800 RPM and not missing a lick!
