In case y'all make it down my way, fishing from Baffin to South Padre has been improving with the slightly better weather and lack of red tide. There is some red tide still left in around Corpus Christi and I'm no expert on that area. I'm not a sure about Baffin Bay because my buddies haven't been to the fish camp, either, although there are reports of dinks moving.
Mansfield and below seems to has escaped a bunch of the fish kill, so limits of trout to 25 inches are possible, along with some oversize reds. A few of us have been to South Bay bear Port Isabel, which is ideal on a high tide, better action than the summer! The only thing is that the snook seem to be hiding and lurking in deep water along the ship channel - no love there. Black drum and sheephead don't seem to have their Mojo yet, and are running better up by Port Mansfield. Gaswell Flats and the Cullen House are fair for trout, closer to my area.
The surf is horrible, not even a few whiting and never a Florida pompano to be seen. Shark seem nonexistent but I haven't fished all night in this nasty weather. Forget that until we get some moving bait, much of which was killed by the red tide. The SPI jetties can be fair to good during calm conditions and the turn of the tide, with mangrove snapper action.
Finally, state water red snapper are good to excellent off Port Mansfield, or was before the recent cold snap and I'll check that out if the Wind Machine ever slows down. I hope you don't mind the strange fishing report from darn-near-to-Mexico, but hey, come on down if you get the ideal.
