I spent the better part of the last week fishing West Bay. Was hoping to find fish in preparation for the Slam tourney...let's just say we were Little Leaguers playing ball in the majors come tourney day. Didn't even weigh in.
July 2 and 3:
Fished all over West Bay...tops and tails mostly. Caught 5 keepers on the 2nd, 3 keepers on the 3rd. A bunch of dinks in between. The highlight was a nice flounder that would have been a solid Blackjack tourney fish.
July 8 (Tourney Day):
Dumped out of the boat at our first spot at 6:30a. 15 mins later, I hooked a red that went just under 25". I really thought we were gonna be in great shape after that...but we didn't catch another fish for 2 hours. Ended the day with 2 reds (25" and 20") and 2 18" trout...lost a nice one at the net that would have given us a full stringer to at least weigh in.
All in all, it was a great few days on the water and sure beats working. As usual, the guys put on a great tournament. We were beat and didn't stay at the weigh in long but saw some really nice stringers weighed in...looking forward to the next one.
