  • A little braggin from spring break in Port A

Well I fished Sunday (3-14) and Monday (3-15) on West Bay and had little to show, with only 5 trout in the box both days. I then got a call from a buddy who lives in Port A, who said they had been doing pretty good. So I loaded up and drove there tuesday afternoon. We woke up and were on the water in Upper Laguna Madre by 7:30 am Wednesday. Started out wading the up wind side of a spoil, nothing to show. Went to another spoil and caught one red and missed several good bites that we suspected were good trout. Finally made our way to a flat full of grass beds. There I started off catching a 23in red, and quickly caught another that measured 20in. For the next hour or two we stayed in the exact same spot and caught 2 more slot reds, a bunch of 19 inchers, and two trout that were 23 in. We moved to one lst spot and cught one more red to fill our limit, and caught 3 more trout to make 5. We caught several undersized red and trout also. Finally 10 hrs later at 5:30pm we were back at the ramp. The next day we slept in and got on the water around 9:30am. We stayed in Port A and found the reds again, in about knee deep water. Could have easily had our limit in 1.5 hrs, but we drug it out and caught about 15-16 reds over 3 hrs on one 200 yrd shoreline. Not a bad day, we had to get off the water early since he had to work and I had to get back on the road to Houston. The pics are from day 1, we didnt take any on day 2.

I hope I catch a 10 lb trout before I catch a flesh eating bacteria.
