Who Inherited What????

The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough,...... a lot of people swallow this nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress,and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.


For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets..


And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked like during that period!

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

She reflects why this POTUS even got elected-because stupid lazy morons got out and voted thinking a new Welfare State was evolving with BHO as POTUS-looks like she was partially correct. add the morons that voted for Pelousy, Reid, Waxman and Boxer and we're totally farged.

The cheerleading , liberal , major news outlets feed poeple misinformation and drivel. They crucified Bush at every opportunity but won't lay a finger on nobama... doesn't fit their ideology. Well let's talk some facts here. Bush did several things that while they did pass Congressional votes, where mainly his pet agenda items. The first was the War in Iraq, where the Bush Administration lied to everyone about "weapons of mass destruction" because none were ever found. But it was a popular war, from the outrage of 9/11. Staff begged for some kind of "war bonds" but Bush decided to finance the war completely on national debt.

A second was Medicare drugs for the elderly, a trillion dollar source of debt over 10 years. Again, very popular because of an aging voting block that loved the program. But again, there was no revenue for this program, so we sank further into debt.

We can talk about how Bush was into "big government" but the fact is, by December of 2007 the country was in the deepest recession since WWII. One of the final legacies of the Bush Administration was to set up a stimulus account to prop up failing corporations, also completely financed by Treasury department debt.

I can't say I like Obama's response to the situation, and he can't blame Bush for what happened since he took office. But consider that if that "stim" had not been spent, our country could have easily dropped into a severe depression and go into insolvency. Admittedly, the effort to rev-up the economy had very uneven results, but in whole it prevented the collapse of the USA.

It is tempting to look for blame, or call Obama a socialist (Bush was one helluva closet socialist because of Medicare drugs), but none of that really matters. What we need is a new wave of leaders who can help pay off all that debt without sending our country into a "double dip" recession. I don't think anyone has a clue how to do that. Do you?

No you don't either, besides a general feeling to "throw all the bums out of office." Folks, that's a stupid solution, since you could easily elect more stupid, corrupt rubes to office just as easily. Come on, you can do better than that!

And hey, just because I don't jump on the hardcore conservative bandwagon doesn't mean I ain't got conservative or libertarian values, maybe more liberal on social issues like legalizing pot.

And I call 'em like I see 'em, and frankly I wasn't impressed by either Bush or Obama, hate both their guts. They're just regular ole slobs like you and me, not very smart, and I think you have to be something of a prostitute to be a career politician anyways.

You want to know a pretty good lie? How about that Reagan balanced the budget (WRONG) and that Clinton had a budget surplus (WRONG). This argument goes all the way back to when Tricky Dick took us off the gold standard. if'n you want to talk money, I can talk money. But y'all just want to talk political smack, which I guess is OK. Gosh I hate politics! Let's go fishin' and to heck with all this ...

Actually we been heading down hill all the way back to when the first President (Linclon) was allowed to ignore the Constitution. Then don't get me started on FDR as he really got all this socialism kicked off big time. But really we can't blame everything on the Presidents as Congress has just as much if not more power and they haven't done anything good in a long time. What we need is to just cut our loses and just start over. Get rid of the whole bunch, and start fresh and make it a illegal to be a professional politican!

I like what you say, and have much to learn as well ... such as that scoundrel FDR. And I agree we need a "fresh start" to get our country on an even keel ... not just by electing new people but possibly by getting rid of about a million pages of red tape regulations - the Federal Register alone published about 80,000 pages of junk a year!

When they hired me at the Texas environmental commission in about 1994, most knew I was sorta liberal but the Big People wanted to streamline the rules and make things less complicated ... which was something I took to like a duck after a June bug! LOL, I killed more stupid rules than you could believe. I had lots of very conservative friends in the industry because they knew that I knew what a stupid rule was.

So there I was, some Austin kid who looked like he put on some nice clothes after a night at a hippie rock fest, hanging out with the most extreme conservatives you can imagine ... and I loved it! Sooo ... that's Sammy!
