  • Are U a Texan or American first?

    From today's Chronicle-interesting.

Do you consider yourself a Texan or an American?

Both, probably – but in a new poll by the Texas Tribune, more than half of Texans age 18-44 say they consider themselves a Texan first and an American second.

For Texans of all ages, the number who put state before country was a little lower – only about 1 in 4.

    More by the numbers:

    – Men were more likely than women to put Texas first: 32 percent to 23 percent.

    – Hispanic Texans were more likely than Anglos to identifty as Texan first: 33 percent to 27 percent.

    – Eighty-four percent of Texas Democrats identify as Americans first.

    - Thirty-six percent of Republicans consider themselves a Texan first.

I'm a Native Texan and do not identify with them damn Yankees like Obama.

Likely a lot of the Dems in the Poll are transplants from up north and Calinutsoland, so that may explain why most Dems relate/identify as Americans over Texans.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Texan... We should secede( too bad it didn't work out in 1865) because this country is making the old Roman Empire look like the Junior League of Shreveport; and with the demographics it won't ever get back to the America of old.

I consider myself Texan only and have for some time but in going along with JT, I'm starting to wonder if there's really anything left of the Texas I grew up loving and being proud of and if there is its probably only in the memories and the hearts of us ... the new minority.
Sorry but this is a heavy and sad topic for me .

As far as them dems point of view on the Texas topic, I can say that I've seen first hand here in the oilfield many Yankees coming down over the years who are so damn proud of their " evolved and cultured" ethics and politics , EVEN WHEN THEY JUST HAD TO FLEE DETROIT!!
Most of them can't be enlightened to what's really going on even with all the cold hard facts in the world.
Once a group of people has made up its mind they become biased and blind to logic and reason.
I'll have to cut myself off here because my thumbs are about to lose all diplomacy and I'll likely wind up moderated off this site.
Thanks for the fire this morning Robalo!

If it ever got bad enough to where the majority of the state thought it'd be good to secede, I'm pretty sure, I'd stay and be a Texan and probably do what needed to be done to accomplish the secession. I support the USA, but only because Texas is part of it at this time. State comes before country to me.

My signature at the bottom says it all ... THE GREAT REPUBLIC OF TEXAS FIRST ! . So much of the country has abandoned traditional values that I do not identify with some states at all . The politicians and the laws they enact are an extension of the people , and to paint it with a large brush , are poles apart from the world view I embrace . For instance , google archival footage of the signing of the peace treaty with Japan on the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay . General Douglas Mcarthur oversees the the signing . I was shocked at the many references to God he made as the the provider and sustainer for our armed conflict and how grateful the nation was for HIS blessing upon the nation . Such dialogue would not be tolerated today . It concluded with him leading them all in the Lords Prayer . God grant that our leaders would do the same .

                              Good post...

My wife and I had this conversation many years ago and we both agreed on 'Texan' first and foremost. Of course we are proud of our wonderful country and would be willing to defend her against all enemies...foreign or DOMESTIC.

FYI Texans.....the anniversary of the San Jacinto 18 minute arse-whooping that 9 Texians gave the ultimate sacrifice for and left 630 Mexicans dead in the mud is just around the corner (April 21st @ 4:00PMish). There is a scheduled reenactment set for April 26th on the battle grounds.

Not spell checked out of spite...
