Best bait when fish are feeding on rain minnows?

The " rain minnows " sound more to be a descriptive term than a fish . I'd try a 1/4 ounce silver spoon if my clear glitter corky didn't work . I have been in my kayak in east bay with an unbelievable feeding frenzy of over an acre ... Bait jumping , water one big slick that almost made you nauseous , surface trout feeding , loud popping , splashing that sounded like heavy rain on the water . Threw everything . Caught one trout with a black super spook ripped over the surface . Too much bait . Bait is essential but too much bait can be as bad as none . It's fairly rare .GEORGE A. Welp... not as many "rain minnows", but similar results as last weekend. I threw shad imitation Gulps, a rattle trap, small spoon, small spinner bait, silver sparkle Corky and various soft plastics and tandem speck rigs = zip, zero and nada.
Even managed to find a quart of live shrimp... with only a few takers, but the drum were hammering the nasty ole dead shrimp. Not complaining, just puzzled, as we ended up with 9 reds and 14 black drum in the box."You've got to think lucky.
