I was wading the MOB one year when a huge unknown dead fish was washing ashore I noticed it about a 1/2 mile out and when it got closer to shore the sharks started ripping and tearing at this thing it was completely gone before it got anywhere near the mouth of the river....

Wading by the water tower and hanging out with a ball of baitfish. All of a sudden I had 8 or so dolphins deciding they wanted to crash my party and help themselves to the baitfish.
Talk about frightening. I was hoping their sonar was good, because they would go from zero to 20 in two strokes and crash the baitfish right in front of me. I couldn't do anything other than hope they see me as they headed right at me.

I've had dolphins swimming around my kayak before, like 5 feet away. I've always wondered if anyone has had them come up and bump their kayak like a toy or something.

Offshore a week ago we stopped at a 2nd rig. Dolphin were seen swimming around, and the second I jumped in, I was covered up in their clicks. You could feel it all through your body and felt like I was in a freakin sonicator. I start hunting the rig and not too surprisingly the snaps are scarce. I saw one barely shooter mangrove and he was on high alert and did not present a good shot. Anyways, I get the feeling like something is watching me, and look back behind me at the open water. 50' away is Flipper, cruising sideways with his head pointed right at me giving me the look-over.

Also giant schools of ladyfish at both the 1st and 2nd rigs.

Hunting a platform 2mi out this last weekend, there were tons of spadefish. They would scratch themselves hard on anything rubber. You could feel them constantly on your fins, and when a big one hit my mask, it startled the crap out of me. They would also do this on the stretched speargun bands, and it would make a strumming sound like a guitar.

Gigging in the last 3 years, I have only seen squid in the bays 2 times. However, the last 3 trips I have seen them every time. For some reason, there are a lot of squid in the bays this year.

Saw a small sea turtle at SLP while gigging.

Saw a nice boat ran up on the S. jetty.

That's what comes to mind off the top of the head. Sure there is plenty more. Living on the coast is the coolest, you see lots of interesting stuff.

Years ago, I was fishing offshore out of Port Aransas with my father in law, when we get a call for a radio check. It's a slow day, so dad gives a reply that they are loud and clear. Fellow then calmly asks if we are in the nearby CC, so we scan around and see what we think is the guy. He aks if we can come on over as they are having some "boat trouble". We aren't catching nothing so we pull the lines in and motor over to see if we can help. As we are pulling up we find a very old, very tired 25' or so IO cabin cruiser... with three scraggly looking characters aboard, two men and a woman, each furiously bailing water. One is using a 5 gallon bucket and the other an ice chest, while the angrily protesting female is working a hand pump. The seas are fortunately flat as a pancake and the stern is so low in the water we can just barely make out name on the stern... says "Sea Bisquit" and they only have about 8" or so of freeboard left before they are swamped! We asked them if they had called the Coast Guard... "NO!" The guy I guess was the capt. only asks us to take his rods and some other gear aboard... while barking at the gal to shut-up and keep pumping! He continuosly refuses for us to call the C.G., as he keeps grasping for ways to keep his boat afloat. We ask if his bilge pump has failed... in response he reaches down into the water and pulls up a bait well sized pump dangling by the wires! He want's to know if we can dismantle our pump and pass it over!! As the situation becomes more dire, he throws us a line and ORDERS us to tie his boat off to ours!!! Obviously not going to happen... so we toss them some life jacket, since they apparently have none, back away a bit and hail the CG. Amazingly enough the CG got there in time to pump 'em out and tow those fools home... and not a thank you one did we receive. Word to the wise... do not answer radio checks, no matter how slow your day might be!

One foggy spring evening, coming back into Siever's, I spotted an emu close to shore in about 2 feet of water. It was kinda tall, like an ostrich but everybody knows there aren't any ostriches in East Bay.

About ten years ago I was wade fishing the surf at the end of the seawall with current CCA President Pat Murray. The surf was as flat as you have ever seen it and I noticed something several hundred offshore making splashes in the water and it was slowly getting closer. I asked Pat what he thought it was and he could not make it out either. After about 30 minutes its closer and it is a guy swimming. He swims right up to me so close we could shake hands and stands up on the second bar next to me. Good morning he say's and sorta speechless I respond good morning back.

Not sure of what to say, I asked just where in the he!! did you come from! He said right there pointing to the condos on the beach just past the end of the seawall. I said NO, where did you come from out there pointing to the gulf. He commenced to telling me he swam out there. In fact he said he swam two miles each morning, one mile out and one mile back. My first response was, dude do you know that there are things out there much bigger than you and are always looking for a free meal. After the deer in the headlights look I had to explain to him that there are sharks and big ones where you just came from. He say's sharks, I haven't seen any sharks around here. I say, your right there are not any sharks around here, I'm just messin with ya and he went on his way back to his condo.

i think the strangest thing i've seen has to be the couple doing it doggie style on the bow of their boat in the middle of jones lake. it didn't seem to bother them one bit that they were keeping me from my favorite reef.
