X2 on the gar, there are two in our canal on a regular basis and one has to be 6ft. plus. We call him catfish hunter from the movie Grumpy Old Men.

I'll try to crop and post some video this weekend of the sharks. My 10-yo was filming the gar when the shark showed up. The audio is hilarious!

I use a softside cooler from Sams in my yak - around $6.00. No shark worries and less drag when paddling.
